New arrivals at the library means a whole new crop of great reading!

Got my hands on these new series starters, and they're fantastic.

The first one features an MC, a girl who's born under a curse, doomed to die and bring her bad luck to everyone she touches, until she is stolen away to another realm, one of magic, a minute before the curse can come to fruition!

The second book is already out and sitting on my bedside table.

Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow

The second features a young girl with gills, who tends to plants in a dirigible-type ship to keep it afloat. When pirates raid the ship, she learns they are collecting skylungs like herself -- for some mysterious, unrevealed reason.

Nadya Skylung and the Cloudship Rescue

The third features a MC, a boy, "on the spectrum," who helps unravel a mystery left in a chest in his house attic by his long-ago ancestor, the great author Jules Verne. His quest has shades of Around the World in 80 Days, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and more!

Max Tilt: Fire the Depths

The fourth is the tale of a girl, Only Fallow, who can see when people tell lies (lies appear as different colors) and because of her ability, is pressed into serving her realm's king as a truthseer and sayer, aka a "heartseeker." The book chronicles her obstacles in getting to the court, and abruptly ends when she arrives. There's a second book in the offing, coming in 2019.

Note to Parents: A Google search of "Heartseeker" brings up a rated T, for Teen, avatar in an online role playing game, League of Legends. Amazon searches for "Heartseeker" bring up adult, romance fiction by the exact same title. I had to scrutinize numerous hits to find the book, but if you include the author's name in the search, it comes up right away.
