Well, it looks like the Write Team Manuscript Mentorship will not be running in 2022. I pulled out last year when my MS was requested, mostly because I had a fab editorial letter from a PW team I was still working with for major revisions, so the timing was just bad.
Now it's gone, and my MS wasn't ready in time for PW, but there's always AMM and Revise & Resub, etc. Such is writing.
However, Write Team is offering something new. In place of MS mentorships, they're offering something called Open Inbox. I've seen the Twitter recruitment notices for the mentors for this. And based off that form, it looks like they'll be offering feedback on standard query packages -- letter, synopsis or first 5 pages.
From the web page for Mentors to apply: "WTMP’s Open Inbox is a public email address that writers can use to ask craft and publishing-related questions to our MIR (stands for Mentor in Residence). In addition to answering questions, volunteering MIR will do submission package reviews (critiquing the query, 1-page synopsis, and first five pages of a writer’s work) at launch and closing of the inbox.)
The website gives this further information on timeline, which is what authors with query submission packages will be most interested in:
January 1, 2022: WTMP Open Inbox begins! Submission Package Reviews start
January 31, 2022: Submission Package Reviews end
February 10, 2022: #WTPitch Event: PALentine Author Matchmaking Chat
March 1, 2022: #RevPit special, Submission Package Reviews start
March 30, 2022: WTMP Open Inbox Ends! Submission Package Reviews end
There is wee-bit of confusing information here, namely the time period the In Box will be open for aspiring writers to submit materials for query feedback. On the Open Inbox page it states:
What is it? "From January 1 to March 30, 2022, WTMP will maintain a roster of authors and industry professionals to provide free writing and publishing advice to writers at all stages of their careers.
How it works: No contest entry required! Fill out the inbox form when it opens to request assistance from one of our professionals. You may direct your question to a specific mentor, or our team will assign one.
So, just to be on the safe side, I'd make sure you get your questions in by the end of January.
Which brings me to why you're getting this info now, and that's super simple: starting Dec. 1, I don't write Writing tips all month; all I do is review books, one (or a series) a day through Dec. 25. The next time I'll remind you about this is in January. But it helps to get the materials ready, especially if you're thinking of querying in January (which I am, squee!!!!!).
As always, drop me a line if you decide to do it. I'd love to hear about your experience. And I'll keep you updated on mine, if I get feedback. We'll see! Excited to see how the new program works.
