So this is another writing mentor competition that I discovered, while preparing my Pitch Wars materials. There are a few key differences.
1. Unlike Pitch Wars, there is no "agent round" -- in other words, your manuscript won't be dangled in front of agents at the end. Instead, you're responsible, in some cases with your mentor, for coming up with the best possible agents to query for your MS, and polishing your query materials.
2. Again, like YA4YA, there aren't as many mentors who participate. I think Pitch Wars had 40+ mentors, in YA, MG and adult categories.
3. AMM is adding mentors for adult genres, but hasn't announced which quite yet. It wrapped up its call for mentors in October. I'd recommend looking at the Mentor application page, just so you can see what AMM's looking for in a mentor.
You get to submit to four possible mentors. It's worth a shot, and another round of editing, just to get the MS as clean as possible.
There's a countdown clock -- 90 days left 'till submission day, Feb. 2020.
I'm still working on edits throughout my MS after the 1st 5 Pages Writing Workshop recommendations and recommendations by a guest speaker at a Sisters in Crime local conference, and am about half-way completed.
Good luck!
