One of the benefits of preparing materials for mentoring platforms like Pitch Wars is discovering how many of them are out there. After I submitted to four mentors at Pitch Wars, I went looking for other similar programs. I'll write about them as I enter.
YA4YA is interesting. It sounds similar to Pitch Wars, but it's clearly not as big, yet. The overall number of mentors is fewer (only 7, total), but I also suspicion the overall number of entrants is fewer, so I'm not sure how to interpret the chances of being picked for mentoring.
Fewer mentors to choose from means the mentor wishlists were correspondingly less diverse, genre-wise. For example, my MS, as a fantasy / mystery, might have appealed to one mentor taking fantasy genre works, but then again, maybe not, because she also indicated she's not a good fit for mysteries.
I submitted the MS to two mentors, and it was not chosen, but I knew, in advance, at least one of the two submissions probably wouldn't really be interested in mentoring because they didn't listing Fantasy as a genre on their wishlist.
By the same token, you never know, and why not submit? Hope springs eternal. Remember this one for next year.
