This is a mystery, written in a style not usually seen in most American or British published children's fiction. While there's some dialogue, the writing is mostly descriptive, focused on inner dialogue and the thoughts of the MC, who cannot talk. I won't say why -- you'll have to read it to find out!
While my older teen loved it, my younger one never finished. School started and summer time-to-curl-up-and-read-on-the-couch ran out.
The MC, Sally Jones, is a gentle giant. His sadness and despair is gut-wrenching. The illustrations are simply amazing!
