This tale brought back memories of a time when my mother stepped off a concrete sidewalk in Everglades City (prior to Hurricane Andrew) and was swarmed by thousands of mosquitoes in seconds.
Except in this book, the MC not only sees and befriends a boy spirit, she can wander and walk in the Everglades marshes with absolute immunity to mozzies -- not a single one mentioned in the entire book! Now that's a fictitious Florida I can love!
The MC has to figure out how to release the boy spirit, by discovering his sad story and connection to a priceless watch, and in the process free herself from the stigma of being an "orphan" living with a curmudgeonly Aunt.
A great read.
