This is a fun romp of a story!
Twelve-year-old Lexi Magill had to transfer out of her prestigious private school to the local public school because of a change in her parents' finances.
She pulls together a team for the Wisconsin Teleportation Tournament with fellow students Ron and Mal, who she thinks are a far cry from the caliber of her private school classmates and private school best friend, Haley. She wants to win the money for first prize so she can afford to go back to her old school and friends. She even rents a teleportation device to be able to participate.
She discovers she's more right than she knew about Haley, and in more ways than one. As the tournament skips across time zones and into foreign countries, she learns her new friends and teammates have skills she never imagined -- and they're far more team-minded than Haley ever was.
It's a fast race of wits and quick thinking that put me in mind of the very first episodes of The Amazing Race, but for kids.
By the end, whether or not they win the Tournament, Lexi's figured out she's already won -- with her new friends.
Read and enjoy!
