Ok, so I don't do writing posts in June or July, which is why you're getting this notice / reminder now. Plan for it, put it on your calendars, work toward it, cross your fingers it's for your genre, but if it isn't, there's another submission window for another round later in the year (and I'll revise this post then, to remind you again).
If you're querying, or looking to query anytime soon, this is a great opportunity to get eyes on that query and see what an agent thinks of it.
Pass or Pages has been around a long while, I just haven't highlighted it often, because I don't query that often, about three times in the last 10 years (three batches of queries I mean, lol!).
This contest operates a little differently than some others, in that it focuses on a single genre / category for each round. That's right, only one genre.
From the contest web page (bolding and ital mine):
"For each round of Pass or Pages, we will only accept entries from one specific genre/category, announced in the weeks leading up to the contest. This ensures that all entries are from a genre/category that our participating agents represent. "
It also stresses, you should not submit a first draft QL. They're looking for polished QLs and authors who need feedback on final draft QLs, although I'm sure if you go into it with a revision mindset, that will help.
The genre for this next round is announced June 21, and then the submission / application window opens July 4-7.
So mark your calendars now. Don't forget. Polish your first page (you'll submit 250 words only), get eyeballs on that QL, polish it up and see what genre they're accepting in a month. Cross fingers, it's yours.
And good luck! If you enter, let me know in the comments. I'll cheerlead for your MS!
