These two mysteries were published a while ago, but the plotting is exquisite and the content is truly MG - no one dies, no one's ever seriously hurt, while the witch / investigator uses her mental prowess to solve each mystery (and there are several in each book!). The second book features the MC figuring out simple codes and a rudimentary, but engaging, cipher.
